Yahya Che Lah berpengalaman mengajar di sekolah rendah (1980 – 1987) dan menengah (1991–1993) sebelum melanjutkan pelajaran di peringkat ijazah sarjana di University of Leeds, UK (1996). Menjadi Guru Penolong Kanan (kurikulum) dan Pensyarah Sambilan sebelum menjawat jawatan Pensyarah di Pusat Pengajian Pendidikan Jarak Jauh, USM tahun 2001.

Yahya Che Lah adalah pensyarah di Pusat Pengajian Pendidikan Jarak Jauh, USM dalam bidang Bahasa Melayu dan Teknik Berfikir.
